The agreement on approving the cut-off marks for admission into tertiary institutions was reached during the recently concluded policy meeting on admissions. This decision is always agreed upon by the JAMB board and stakeholders of Nigeria’s education sector. According to the agreement, this year’s minimum cut-off mark for admission into all Nigerian universities is pegged at 140, Polytechnics at 100, and Colleges of Education at 100.

Important Note: Let me explain how the JAMB cut off mark works. First, JAMB and stakeholders have agreed that University cut off mark is 140 and above. However, all Universities have the power to choose their preferred cut off marks for admission. However, you CANNOT go below 140 as your cut off mark, but you can go above.

Depending on the number of candidates seeking admission, universities can increase the cut off mark to 160, 180, or even 200, to cut down on the number of qualified candidates they’ll be admitting. This is why schools like Unilag, UniBen, UI, Uniport, Lasu, OAU, Futo, Unical, etc have higher cut off marks than private or smaller universities. This also applies for Polytechnics and Colleges of Education.

• The board of directors at the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially approved the cut-off marks that will be used to admit candidates for the 2026/2027 academic session.
• All applying candidates awaiting the JAMB cut off marks should be aware that each university, Polytechnics and College of Education reserve the right to increase their cut-off marks.
• The 2023 official cut-off marks for admission into all tertiary institutions were arrived at, following votes by Vice-Chancellors of Universities, Rectors of Polytechnics and Provosts of colleges of education.
• Institutions are allowed to increase their cut off marks. However, No institution will be allowed to go below the agreed minimum cut-off marks for 2023 admission.

According to the JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, who spoke to news people after the meeting between the JAMB board and stakeholders, saying that each tertiary institution has the freedom and autonomy to set its own cut-off mark of up to 220 (Maximum), but no institution is allowed to go below the agreed minimum marks of 100 for colleges of education and 100 for all Polytechnics.

NO, the official JAMB cut-off mark for 2023 is NOT YET OUT. This is because the JAMB Board and stakeholders (VC’s, Rectors, and Provosts) are yet to hold the annual JAMB Policy meeting (Usually between June and July every year) to determine the general minimum cut-off mark for admission.

What is JAMB Policy Meeting?

The “JAMB’s Policy Meeting” is the official name of the conference, where all Major Universities Vice-chancellors, Polytechnics Rectors, and College of Education Provosts meet with the JAMB board to agree on the minimum and maximum cut-off marks for admission.

The outcome of this important meeting always determines the minimum cut-off mark for all universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education. Usually, one factor that determines the minimum cut-off mark is based on the overall performance of the JAMBites.

• However, a candidate who uses the phone number they used for JAMB registration to check their result candidate will receive a message that reads: “Dear Mr/Miss X, your result is as follows… (and the details will be provided).
• For candidates who unfortunately have their results withheld for any reason, they’ll receive a message that reads “Result Withheld” to their phone number.
• Any candidate whose result is withheld, but may get their result released on a later date, will receive a message that reads: “Result withheld pending the upload of clarifications/document required from you.”
• Any candidate absent during his/her JAMB exercise, would get “CANDIDATE ABSENT” as feedback.

Speaking on the issue, the JAMB Boss disclosed that the JAMB board has no reason whatsoever to withhold the results of the UTME.

He said and I quote below:

“Honestly, the UTME result is supposed to be available to all UTME candidates by now, but because I am not at the JAMB headquarters in FCT Abuja, and I do not want to approve it while going around the country, inspecting the 750+ CBT centres.

However, the very moment I land at the headquarters, all the examination results will be approved and released because we have no reason to continue to hold on to it,”.

The registrar further disclosed more while visiting the Southeast to check the conduct of the UTME examinations, and at the same time, visiting the new University in Ebonyi state.

The JAMB boss said that JAMB registered a total of 1,415,501 candidates in the UTME 2023 and 1,122, 095 had taken the examinations so far, while 66,111 are yet to sit for theirs. According to Professor Ishaq, there are a total of seven hundred and fifty (750+) CBT examination centres across the 36 states of Nigeria.

This method does not require an active internet connection. No, it does not even require a smartphone. You can use any functioning phone to check your JAMB result by SMS. The only requirement is that your result can ONLY be sent to the SIM card you used to get your profile code during your JAMB 2023 registration.

The JAMB Result Checker Portal Login is free, while you will be charged N50 for using the SMS method to check your performance score.

Step 1: Go to the messaging application on your phone.

The www.jamb.org.ng result portal has been officially shutdown. The website isn’t loading anymore and is not used by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB). They are now using the .gov extension. The official JAMB portal is jamb.gov.ng.

The JAMB Admission letter is very important and mandatory for all the candidates offered admission (all years) into accredited tertiary institutions in Nigeria. It’s compulsory that you print out the admission letter and submit it during your Clearance (Admission procedures) and NYSC mobilization.

How to Print JAMB Admission Letter.

You will be charged officially on the JAMB portal, One Thousand Naira Only (₦1,000). However, since you will be paying via Remita or other payment platforms, you will be required to pay an additional ₦160 – ₦200.

Candidates/students who do not have a JAMB profile must a profile via the Sign Up (New User) Page. To create your JAMB profile, you need to use a valid email address (because you will need it for verification), surname, first name, Mobile No, State and LGA of Origin and password, to successfully create a JAMB profile account. Each candidate can ONLY create one profile account on JAMB portal.

Step 1: Visit th JAMB portal at https://efacility.jamb.gov.ng.

Step 2: When it loads up, Login by entering your correct ‘Email Address’ and ‘Password’ in their correct box.

Click on the Red Box that reads: PRINT ADMISSION LETTER.

Step 3: Click on the “Print Admission Letter” tab. This is available on the sidebar or on the Home page as shown in the image above.

Step 4: Once you select this service, a Transaction ID is automatically generated for this service.

Step 5: Before proceeding to pay for the admission letter, carefully review the details displayed on the Confirmation Page. Be aware that the Transaction ID is displayed in bold red font. The Transaction ID is always important very useful for all future references concerning the admission letter printing transaction. Don’t worry, because once you’ve paid, a copy of this transaction ID will automatically be sent to your JAMB registered email address.

Step 6: To pay, proceed by clicking on the Continue button. You can choose which payment platforms you preferred, e.g ATM, Cash at the Bank or Quickteller, take note that the transaction ID will be required.

Step 7: On the Payment page, enter your card details and click on the Pay button.

Step 8: Once your payment is successful, a message containing your unique Transaction Identification and payment status will be sent to you as an SMS and email. Click on the Continue button. You can always go to the “My Payment Section” to print out your letter anytime.

Step 9: Ensure you select the Year you wrote the JAMB Exam and type in your JAMB Registration Number in the appropriate box.

After entering the information correctly, you can now print the Admission letter as shown on your screen.

JAMB Regularization for Admission Letter Printing.

JAMB regularization is a registration exercise for undergraduate students in Nigeria who do not have a JAMB admission letter. The JAMB regularization is commonly used by students who did not accept admission offer via their JAMB CAPS.

The reason why some students cannot print out their Admission Letters is that you must be offered admission on JAMB CAPS before you will be able to print out your admission letter.

Students in this category must undergo the JAMB regularization exercise to get their admission letters. Use the guide below to resolve this.

Congratulation: Students who after checking their Matriculation status and got “congratulations…” as a prompt message, this means you have been confirmed by JAMB and all your details are submitted. Wait for the next batch, as you will be mobilised for NYSC for the graduates.

Kindly Print JAMB Admission Letter: Students who got the “kindly print JAMB admission letter” as a prompt message when they checked their Matriculation status on JAMB, kindly visit a cyber cafë outlet, where you can easily log into your JAMB profile and print out your JAMB Admission Letter immediately.

Kindly Print JAMB Result Slip: Students who received this message prompt: “Kindly print JAMB result slip” As a prompt message, you’re required to visit a cyber café outlet closest to you, and print out your result slip immediately. This message is mostly applicable to students who got admission through Direct Entry (DE).

Kindly Print JAMB Admission Letter and Result Slip: If you received this prompt message when checking your NYSC matriculation status on the JAMB portal, quickly visit a Cyber café Outlet to immediately print out both the “JAMB admission letter and Original JAMB Result slip”.

You are Not Given Admission Yet: Students who got the prompt message: “you have not been given admission yet” while checking the JAMB matriculation list to check their NYSC eligibility status, quickly go for the regularisation of admissions, and this can be achieved on the JAMB portal. A form will be generated online, which should be submitted to the Admission Office for further processing. The National Identification Number (NIN) is compulsory and mandatory for Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry (DE) registration. Take note that NIN is a unique eleven (11) digit number.

Anyone can register for their National Identification Number (NIN) in any NIN outlet nationwide. It’s the right of every Nigerian to have their own NIN number. To ensure Nigerians start registering for their NIN from a youthful age, the federal government made it mandatory that NIN is compulsory for your JAMB registration.

Since 2021, JAMB has made NIN compulsory to curb examination malpractice and identify each candidate using their personal data. NIN has made registration quicker and faster since it already contains vital information about you. Like your Age, Date of Birth, Month of Birth, Birth Year, State of Origin, etc.

The National Identification Number (NIN) Registration is free of charge.

• Local Government of Origin Certificate.

How to Get NIN for JAMB Registration.

Since it’s now compulsory to use NIN for JAMB registration if you don’t have NIN already, here is how you can get your NIN for JAMB registration.

• Visit the NIN registration centre closest to you.
• Meet any of the available staff and kindly ask them to register you for NIN.
• You’ll be handed a NIN registration form.
• Carefully go through the form and use your Correct data.
• Submit the form to the registration agent.
• Wait to collect your NIN slip.
• I’ll advice you to get the original NIN slip. Most NIN agents charge between N2,000 – N3,000 for the original NIN slip. However, if you don’t want to pay, you’ll be asked to wait for months before you can get it.

How to Retrieve NIN Number.

If you have previously registered for your NIN and forgot the Number, don’t worry and Do not register for a new one. You can easily retrieve your NIN number using the phone number you used during your registration.

The service will Cost you twenty Naira (N20) only, and is achievable via SMS.

• Dial the USSD code *346# on your phone.
• Select “NIN Retrieval” by typing 1.
• Select the option to see your NIN number.

Locate the Nearest MTN, Glo Airtel Office.

• You can commence your NIN registration at MTN, Glo or Airtel offices nearest to you.
• If there’s none in your area, go to your local government office in your location to register for NIN.

Finally, know the NIN offices working hours. NIN offices are open on Monday to Friday, and they work from 8 AM to 4 PM daily.

How to Check if your O’level Result was uploaded on the JAMB portal.

Sometimes, the staff who did your JAMB registration may be overbusy, too tired, or just lousy and didn’t upload your O’level result (WAEC, NECO, GCE). Here’s how you can check whether it was successfully uploaded.

1. Go to the official JAMB page via https://efacility.jamb.gov.ng
2. In the two blank boxes provided, type in your JAMB profile email address and profile password to login.
3. Click on Check Admission Status at the bottom of the dashboard to log in.
4. Proceed and Click on Access My CAPS.
5. Next, click on the My O’level link on the left sidebar to see whether you have uploaded your O’level results.
6. If you checked and your O’level result has not yet been uploaded on your JAMB profile, proceed and visit any JAMB CBT centre or JAMB office nearest you to do so.

What is JAMB eFacility Login?

The JAMB efacility is an online website created for all UTME and DE candidates to make their admission procedure easier. Through the JAMB portal, candidates can now print Original result slip, Print admission slips, Access or Reject Admission on JAMB CAPS, check admission status, Apply for data correction, Regularize admission, etc.

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has made it mandatory that all candidates registering for JAMB UTME must have a profile on the efacility portal. It gives you access to all the UTME services for students.

55019 is JAMB official shortcode. To check JAMB result via SMS, do this:
